March 2009

The economic recession and a low turn-out of villagers didn't stop this year's Ganderland Race Night from generating a welcome boost to the Hall's funds.

Our regular pro-MC, Al Fresco ran the show again and over £560 was raised - a very useful addition to the funds being accumulated for the planned toilets refurbishment.   So once again, a big thank you to everybody who attended!

A very big THANK YOU to everybody who supported our event this year!  Mike Bailey, a member of the Broughton Gifford Village Hall management committee said afterwards that he thought,

"the weather conditions for the event were the worst in 31-years!!

Despite the weather, Steve Jacobs and his team from Flashpoint Fireworks managed to launch over 95% of the planned fireworks, so those that braved the elements were again treated to a fantastic show - all set to music.

"The fireworks were amazing - there was so much colour. The display was one of the best I have seen and the bonfire was huge." - Georgia Shanahan, 11, Trowbridge

Friday's annual event held on the village common, raised money for community groups and organisations in Broughton Gifford, and was hailed as the best ever. As well as the fireworks (which were set to music by Steve Jacobs of Flashpoint Fireworks) and bonfire, there was also a beer tent, a stall hosted by the local Scout group and a children's roundabout to keep the revellers entertained.

Mike Bailey, a member of Broughton Gifford village hall committee, who has been helping organise the display for almost 30 years said the event was, "... the best ever, with  record attendance."

After a couple of years rest, the Ganderland Race Night held on St. Patrick's day was one of the best supported of all time.  We used an outside provider (Al Fresco) to run the show and this appears to have been a popular decision.  A financial success for the Village Hall (£866 profit to provide much-needed funds), so a big thank you to everybody who attended, and spread the word for next year's event!

More tables!  We do of course realise that if you throw out old tables, they do need to be replaced with new ones!  We have therefore purchased four (4) new tables (like the ones shown here), which should hopefully go a long way towards alleviating the problem.

More chairs!  Yes, we've taken on-board the fact that some events in the Hall over the last year or so have been a bit lacking on the chair front!  We now have thirty (30) new chairs (like the ones shown here, but in brown) that match the better examples of the existing chairs.

Thank you! to everybody who helped us clear the Hall of unwanted items.  The stage is now much clearer and the Committee Room is well on the way to becoming clear of the clutter that has accumulated over many years.  We will soon be looking to introduce a large stage-side cupboard or two, with the aim of having the stage completely available for users of the Hall.  Watch this space!
